Apache 2.0 core, predictive guardrails inline at the gateway, tamper-evident audit ledger included on every tier and verifiable offline. Polar.sh Merchant of Record — no per-seat trap, ingest is never blocked by billing state. No surprise bills.

Tiers

* Annual billing is not yet available — the monthly plans are what you can buy today. The annual prices are published so they are known in advance; checkout offers monthly only until annual opens.
  • OSS self-host — 205 providers, single-node Docker Compose (ClickHouse-backed), rule-based, observe-first predictive layer, community support. Apache 2.0 full stack.
  • Free hosted — no commercial use; the same rule-based, observe-first predictive layer every tier runs (on chat traffic: tool-definition drift and the tool-call schema validator; see predictive guardrails).
  • Builder — the rule-based, observe-first predictive layer, prompt history (read-only).
  • Team — SSO/SAML; the same predictive layer Builder runs, plus the data-governance and quality rails, and a tamper-evident promotion record.
  • Business — SSO/SAML; the data-governance and quality rails.
  • Enterprise — SSO/SAML, dedicated tenancy option, custom volume on every meter, 7-year ledger retention and the bulk audit export.

How annual billing works

Not yet available — this is how it will work once it opens. An annual plan is billed as two Polar subscriptions on one customer: the annual base, paid up front for the year, and a $0 monthly usage subscription that carries the plan’s monthly allowances and bills any overage in arrears each month. In the Polar-hosted billing portal they appear as two subscriptions; on your Tracelane billing page they are one plan. Change or cancel the plan from the Tracelane billing page, not from either subscription alone.

Included allowances (per month, no rollover)

Ingest is ONE meter — a gateway call and a raw OTel span both count the same way. Whichever path sends data (the gateway’s /v1/chat/completions proxy, or an OTel exporter pointed at Tracelane), what you’re billed on is bytes accepted, not a trace count or a separate span limit.
Size by ingest bytes, not by run count. If you send OpenTelemetry spans directly (the framework integrations), one agent run is many spans, and each span is its own share of ingest bytes.Measured on 2026-08-31 with the standard community instrumentors:A busier framework that retries tasks sends more spans, and more spans is more ingest bytes. If you’re unsure, run your agent once against a free account and check the ingest total on your usage page before committing to a plan.
Retention has two windows. The indexed window is how far back queries run fast: Free 3 days, Builder 30 days, Team 90 days, Business 180 days, Enterprise 365+ days. Queryable history is how far back your data stays queryable at all, from cold storage: Free 30 days, every paid tier 2 years (Enterprise keeps the audit ledger for 7 years; queryable history stays 2 years). Retention is not customer-configurable — there is no retention setting in the product.
Uptime. Tracelane does not offer a contractual uptime SLA or service credits. The SLO dashboard tracks error-budget burn against a default availability target, and burn-rate alerts are available on paid plans.

How usage is metered

Six meters, all live on every paid tier — Builder included. Usage above your included allowance bills continuously per unit; there is no rollover and no hard-cap.
Resident GB is the logical size of what you sent, averaged daily across the month — not peak, not compressed bytes on disk. The hot window is priced as query capacity, not disk.
Never metered, and why: per host or peak host · per seat on any paid tier · a separate egress line (egress is priced into ingest and query) · retention as a multiplier · OTel attributes reclassified as premium metrics.
No rollover. Unused allowance does not carry to next month. Incident burst. Any single day up to 5× your trailing 30-day average is billed at included rates, not overage. Warnings at 75% and 90% of any meter, with a month-end projection and a “what’s using your window” breakdown by project, service, capture state and trace shape. Spend ceiling — off by default. Set a monthly ceiling if you want one. At the ceiling, AUTO-AGE switches on: the oldest days leave your indexed window early and stay queryable in cold storage. Ingest keeps running and nothing is lost.
Ingest is never blocked by billing state, on any tier. A recorder that stops recording because of an invoice is not a recorder.

Free

One workspace per account, no card required, no overage — Free ages out rather than returning 429s.

Policies

  • Dunning. Failed payments retry at days 1, 5 and 14, then the workspace drops to Free. Data is held 30 days.
  • Refunds. 30 days on the base subscription, first billing cycle only. Usage charges are non-refundable.
  • Enterprise onboarding. A one-time $5,000 fee covers migration and a named engineer for 30 days.
  • Prepaid credits. $5,000 buys $5,750 of usable credit; $20,000 buys $24,000. Credits expire after 12 months.
Audit ledger. The tamper-evident ledger, hash chain, Rekor anchoring and self-verification are included on every tier. Seven-year ledger retention is included on Enterprise.

How we compare

Competitive pricing verified May 2026 against each vendor’s public pricing page; the Gateway row was re-checked 2026-09-07. LangSmith Engine launched May 13, 2026 (langchain.com/blog/interrupt-2026-overview). See also vs LangSmith Engine and the full comparison matrix. We’re wrong? FAQ

You get a warning at 75% and 90% of any meter, with a month-end projection. Usage above your included allowance bills continuously per unit — there is no hard-cap and no 429. Any single day up to 5× your trailing 30-day average bills at included rates (incident burst), so a one-day spike doesn’t turn into overage. An optional spend ceiling (off by default) switches on AUTO-AGE at the limit you set: the oldest days leave your indexed window early and stay queryable in cold storage, and ingest keeps running. No surprise bills.
Team management is live. Seats are unlimited on every paid tier — Builder, Team, Business and Enterprise all invite without limit. Free is single-seat. Invite by email from Settings → Team — invitations are sent through WorkOS, and each invitee is given a member or viewer role (owner is a separate explicit grant). On Free, a second invite is refused with a typed seat_limit_reached error. Provider keys are BYOK and workspace-scoped, so every seat shares the workspace’s keys.
Heuristic guardrails run inline at the gateway on every request. Every agent-safety rail is free — on the hosted free tier and in an Apache-2.0 self-host alike:Team and above add the data-governance and quality rails: secrets/PII detection and redaction, output-format policy, system-prompt-leak detection, and topic/competitor policy. How rug-pull detection works in practice: it compares each request’s tool definition against the one you approved. Tracelane records every tool definition it sees on your traffic, so approving is one click in Guardrails → Tool pinning — there is nothing to configure and no tool JSON to hand-author. After that, any change to the tool’s name, schema or description is flagged as definition drift on the next request. Tracelane stores the definition hash, never the tool text. Approving pins a definition; it never grants a tool any capability, which is a separate owner-only setting. Each rail can flag or halt the request at the gateway, inline, per the configured policy — detection is observe-first by default, because a false-positive block is worse than the failure it prevents.Browser stuck-loop prediction, A2A/A2UI catalog conformance and argument-drift detection are on the roadmap: the detectors exist, but they gate on payload fields (mcp_server_name, tool_name, protocol) that a /v1/chat/completions request does not carry, so they do not fire on LLM traffic today.
Engine clusters production failures after they happen, then drafts PRs and online evaluators in your LangSmith UI. Tracelane sits one step earlier in the agent lifecycle: inline heuristic guardrails at the gateway, tamper-evident promotion record on every deploy, and EWMA drift-based rollback on metrics you post to the observe endpoint (cost, latency, guardrail-fire rate — see prompt promotion for what is autonomous and what is not). Engine requires the LangSmith trace surface + LangChain-managed inference keys per LangSmith AI ToS. Tracelane is OTel GenAI semconv-native, BYOK zero markup, Apache 2.0 full stack, self-hostable. See vs LangSmith Engine.
A tamper-evident record of what your agents actually did. Every gateway-proxied request appends a hash-chained audit entry. Entries are batched (100 by default), each batch gets an RFC 6962 Merkle root, and that root is signed with your workspace’s own Ed25519 key — the Merkle root is per batch, not per span. Anchored batches carry a resolved Sigstore Rekor v2 inclusion proof on a best-effort basis, with universal per-run anchoring on the roadmap. All of this — the hash chain, Ed25519 signing, Rekor anchoring and offline self-verification — is included on every tier, not sold as a separate add-on.Scope, stated plainly: only calls proxied through the Tracelane gateway are chained. Spans sent straight from an SDK or an OTLP exporter are stored and queryable, but they are not part of the chain.Self-verify with tlane verify --tenant-pubkey on your own export — no Tracelane involvement, no trust in us required. The bulk regulatory export (/v1/audit/export, the Article-12-style evidence package) and 7-year ledger retention are Enterprise capabilities. See Audit Ledger.
Free hosted (one workspace, no card required) is permanently free for non-commercial use. There is no paid-tier free trial — the free hosted tier and OSS self-host are the trial.
Yes. Apache 2.0 full stack on GitHub (github.com/tracelane/tracelane). Self-host the full stack with a single-node Docker Compose (ClickHouse-backed) — no managed cloud required. Enterprise gets a commercial-support license. See Self-hosting.
